Satsui no Hadō: 殺意の波動 Surge of Murderous Intent

Every fighting style has its strengths and weaknesses. What they all have in common, however, is the potential to be misused and become dangerous. This is especially true for users of Ansatsuken Karate, for within every user lies the possibility of becoming a ruthless killer, by way of the killing intent known as the Satsui no Hadō.

As stated in previous analyses, Ansatsuken Karate was created by Goutetsu to be a brutal fighting style, with nearly every move to be a crippling or fatal one. In order to achieve this, one must be willing to do whatever to takes to be strong and victorious in battle. You must desire victory, crave it, demand it. Nothing must stand in your way…even if your opponent must die in the process. It is this desire to eliminate all obstacles on your path to strength and power that awakens the Satsui no Hadō within.

Once awakened, this tempting ki slowly but surely begins to torment the user's spirit until it is either resisted or accepted. The former can be a great strain, especially depending on how powerful one is already.

If embraced, this grants the user with incredible power, and enhances all their fighting abilities a hundredfold. But, the danger is even greater than the rewards. By tapping into the Satsui no Hadō, you risk losing your very humanity to it, becoming merciless, power-hungry, and, if untrained, a slave to your own bloodlust.

These are the poor souls who dared to embrace its power.

Goutetsu: The founder of this style was well aware of the dangers, especially regarding the Satsui no Hadō. Rather than succumb to it, it seems that he was able to completely master its power, while retaining his humanity. One can speculate that he valued the positive aspects of fighting alongside the more violent ones. Goutetsu embraced the warrior's path as a whole…but it can be argued that it was this fence-sitting ideology that became his undoing.

Akuma (Gouki): The most infamous practitioner to use the murderous intent. Unlike his older brother, Gouken, who believed that their should be used for protection and enlightenment, Akuma insisted that their style demanded to be used the way it was meant for: fighting and winning, at all costs. To this end, Akuma was more than willing to sacrifice his humanity for the ultimate power the Satsui no Hadō promised. Needless to say, he did just that, adopting the vile power and the demonic mannerisms he is known for today.

What many don't know, however, is that Akuma is constantly holding back his true state. Once his full power is released, he resembles something from the bowels of Hell itself, something he revels in.

These two are the only warriors seem using the Satsui no Hadō to a consistent extent. However, there are other Ansatsuken warriors who have shown the potential to use it or, at the very least, be tempted by it. For the sake of completion, this analysis will cover them all.

Evil Ryu: The most promising subject, Ryu first awakened the Satsui no Hadō when he was pummeled by the Muay Thai Emperor, Sagat, in the first World Warrior tournament. Defeat was nigh, but Ryu refused to lose after coming so far, and allowed his frustration and anger to ignite the murderous intent. It was during this moment of madness that Ryu quickly arose and dealt Sagat the Metsu Shoryuken that scarred his chest.

Ever since then, Ryu has done his utmost to keep the Satsui no Hadō at bay, a struggle that is nothing less that torture for the warrior. Should he succumb, he will become a mindless killer, a slave to the Satsui no Hadō who lives only for blood.

Violent Ken: While Ken Masters has yet to become desperate enough to hear the Satsui no Hadō's call, he, like all practitioners of Ansatsuken, has the potential to do so. During Shadoloo's first strike against Ryu, Ken was used as a guinea pig to test out the Psycho Power of Master Bison, which ignited the latent Satsui no Hadō within him. In this state, Ken was crazed, and driven to eradicate whatever was in front of him. His defeat by Ryu brought him back to his senses.

While Bison's Psycho Power is different in origin to the Satsui no Hadō, both involve drawing upon negative emotions and ridding oneself of compassion and mercy. Therefore, it is not unlikely that, should Ken feel the murderous intent rise within him, this is the state he could find himself in. That being said, Ken is strong on his own and far too confident in himself and his own path to be desperate enough to need the Satsui no Hadō, so do not expect to see this form materialize any time soon.

Dark Sakura: Miss Kasugano's journey upon the warrior's path is still in its beginnings, so she still has a lot to learn. Though Sakura is not yet strong enough to feel the Satsui no Hadō, there's a strong chance she will be. Only time will tell.

As one may no doubt assume, this power is far from being a mere tool that can be used without consequence. If one uses it to its fullest extent for too long, the user runs the risk of being completely consumed by the evil energy. Case in point...

Kuruoshiki Oni: Make no mistake, this creature is no longer Akuma. He has completely lost himself to the Satsui no Hado and now only lives for death and destruction. It matters not who you are nor whether or not you can provide a challenge, as Oni has cast aside any loose precepts of honor or sport. If you face him... You. Will. DIE.

The Satsui no Hadō is not to be trifled with, whether you are using it or not. It represents every that is wrong about the way of the warrior. The choice, however, is always in the hands of the user.

(If you must debate me on this and other analyses, please contact me elsewhere. Thank you.)
Yet another Ansatsuken analysis. This one has been constantly promised, but various crap kept getting in the way of me writing it.

I mentioned Violent Ken and Dark Sakura because they are possible. Not likely in the immediate future, I know, but possible.

I'll cover the Shun Goku Satsu and others moves related to the Satsui no Hadō later.
